After getting a flat in the yellow jersey during stage 7 of this year's Tour de France, Fabian Cancellara was faced with a daunting task of chasing down the peleton on this fast decent. If you're short of time I suggest skipping to about 3:25 where things get really interesting.
I'd imagine most have seen this by now but if you haven't its worth a watch. Theo Bos appears to grab and throw Daryl Impey, wearing the leader's jersey, into the barriers during the final three k of the Presidential Tour of Turkey (I've never heard of it either, but now everyone has because of this...) causing a spectacular crash. Bos has so far avoided sanctioning and Impey remains in the hospital in Turkey.
After last week's spectacular trio of cobbled races in France and Belgium, its time for a different type of rider. Last year they were won by some of the best.
Damiano Cunago wins Amstel Gold
Check out this awesome video of 'the Badger' winning in the Roubaix velodrome on his first try. Who will we see victorious this weekend? Put in your guess here.
We're getting close to the start of the season coming up, and it seems that Ferrari, BMW and Toyota are out front by a hair with the rest chasing close behind. McLaren seems to be having the most trouble so far. Check out James Allen's first hand scouting report from Spain here, and watch the video to see what you think yourself.
This is fast becoming one of the coolest races on the calender, held on a mix of paved and gravel roads through Tuscany with tons of climbing. What else could you ask for? How about a brutal uphill finish downtown in beautiful Sienna. You got it!
This weekend the fastest racers in cyclocross will duke it out in Hoogerheid, Belgium for the honor of getting a pristine white jersey with rainbow stripes on it muddy for the next year. Last year Lars Boom put in a dominant performance in a very road-race like competition under sunny skies in Italy. The Belgiam national team did their best impression of a TdF team in the last 5k of a sprint stage, controlling things with a tight fist of authority at the front of the peleton. It seemed that the win was destined to be theirs, but the presence of a certain bright orange kit from the Nederlands ruined it for the Belgies.
Check out this video from last year's race that Suitcase of Courage put together. Its safe to assume things will be sloppier this year in the northern hinterlands.
